Katie, we hardly knew you!
After less than half a Scaramucci, Trump’s new press secretary has been forced to fall on her designer sword.
At Saturday Night Live, a cast member hoping for a lengthy and fruitful run is surely distraught, but in the White House, I can imagine, there was an audible sigh of relief as Katie Zacharia was forced out of a job she held for less than a week.
Anthony Scaramucci, the previous record holder for the shortest tenure at the podium (11 days), tweeted his support: ‘Turn off the news and go enjoy your family. In time you’ll realize that the Universe did you a major favor.’
Perhaps, he’s right.
For Zacharia appears to leave 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue with the proverbial knives of her colleagues protruding from the back of her chic blazer.
What ultimately doomed Katie ‘I’m a lawyer!’ Zacharia?
The consensus opinion appears to be that she committed a cardinal sin in Trumpworld – making the boss look bad.
Here’s a look back at her fateful last 72 hours:
The wheels started coming off almost immediately on Tuesday morning, as Zacharia was thrown into the bearpit of the James S Brady Press Briefing Room. She stumbled, stuttered and looked down nervously as she read her script.
One could almost sense the feral beast that is the White House Press corps smelling blood in the water.
Zacharia tried to delay the attacks by taking only three questions. Just one of them was about policy.
Has the US stopped sharing intelligence with Ukraine, asked Fox News’s Senior White House Correspondent, Peter Doocy.
She couldn’t answer, she said.
Turning to the Daily Mail’s Elina Shirazi, Zacharia revealed that the President had asked for the resignation of US Ambassador to Greece, Kimberly Guilfoyle.
That was news.
Was it also foreshadowing?
