Drivers get 35,000 private parking charges a day – as DVLA continues to sell YOUR details

Motorists in Britain are sent more than 35,000 parking tickets every day by private companies – and the DVLA is raking in almost £90,000 per day as a result, new analysis reveals.

Tickets can be issued by private parking operators to drivers for overstaying time restrictions in car parks at supermarkets, shopping centres, business parks, motorway services and restaurant locations, with fines amounting to as much as £100.

The shocking volume of tickets issued comes five years after the Government promised to introduce a Private Parking Code of Practice designed to make the system fairer for drivers – but it has still failed to put in place rules to clampdown on operators.

Meanwhile, the DVLA continues to sell motorists’ details to private parking companies, so they can issue tickets to vehicle owners in the post.

At £2.50 per request, the DVLA generates an average of £88,250 a day from private parking operators.
