Rishi Sunak faces calls to kick Liz Truss out of the Tory Party after her conspiracy theory rants at a right-wing love-in in the US.

The 49-day disaster PM, who managed to tank the economy during her short spell at the helm, has told audiences that a ‘deep state’ is to blame for her failure. Labour says her actions are “incredibly damaging” to our democracy and called on Mr Sunak to act.

Her antics in Washington DC have created a headache for the Prime Minister, who already faces calls to discipline former deputy chairman Lee Anderson who is accused of racism. In a speech to the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), she ranted: “Conservatives are now operating in what is a hostile environment and we essentially need a bigger bazooka in order to be able to deliver.”

And during a TV chat with former Donald Trump strategist Steven Bannon she claimed that a “radical Islamist party” could win the upcoming Rotherham by-election. She said: “There’s going to be a by-election in the next few weeks, and it could be a radical Islamic party win in that byelection. So that is a possibility.”

Ms Truss also failed to challenge Mr Bannon when he described far-right agitator Tommy Robinson as a “hero”. Her former Cabinet colleague Sir Sajid Javid wrote: I’d hope every MP would confront such a statement head on. Liz should really know better.”

In a letter to Mr Sunak, Jonathan Ashworth, Labour’s Shadow Paymaster General, said: “Your predecessor is spreading disinformation and conspiracy theories about a ‘deep state’ that is to blame for the downfall of her premiership and suggests is in control of the United Kingdom government, economy and civil society at large.
