A VERY high roller blade: Giant 213ft long wind turbine rotor is slowly hauled through Scottish Borders town – and is so big it has to be pointed upwards

A 65 metre wind turbine was slowly hauled through a Scottish Borders town as it made its way to a new farm.

The giant blade had to be pointed upwards as it was taken through Hawick to avoid destroying buildings, trees and lamp posts on the journey.

Incredible photos of the huge wind turbine travelling down a main road towards the Pines Burn Wind Farm on Saturday have emerged.

It is the ninth out of 21 blades which need to be transported to the farm.

The project was initially turned down by the council and was condemned by locals – but the Scottish Government ruled the advantages would be more beneficial than any consequences on landscape, according to reports.

Trying to transport the gigantic blades causes traffic disruption and can cause issues with residents, who complain about traffic piling up.

The tyres of a vehicle transporting another turbine was slashed by local thugs near Hawick in November, according to The Sun.

These turbines have to be escorted by specially trained police as they are classified as abnormal loads.

This comes after a wind turbine exploded at a quiet Welsh farm last month, showering broken parts to the ground.

Walkers enjoying a quiet stroll in the Welsh countryside captured the shocking sight.
