Commander Julian Bennett, the senior Metropolitan Police officer – who drew up an anti-drugs strategy for the force – has been sacked after refusing to provide a sample when he himself was accused of smoking cannabis.
Mr Bennett, who joined the force in 1976, had already been cleared by a disciplinary panel of using the drug at home in late 2019 but was found to have failed to provide a urine sample for a drugs test on July 21 2020.
As a result, he was suspended on full pay in July 2021 while police authorities began an investigation which concluded yesterday.
