Ron DeSantis called on President Joe Biden to declassify information regarding the planning and financing of the September 11th terrorist attacks and to reassure Americans he will make no plea deals for some of the planners.
‘We as a nation still owe full transparency and accountability to these grieving families. Yet too many politicians have broken past promises to them, and that is wholly unacceptable,’ said the Florida governor in a statement.
He and Casey DeSantis spent the 22nd anniversaryy of the attacks at Ground Zero at the invitation of family members of September 11th victims.
The two also met with New York police officers and first responders, according to exclusive photos obtained by DailyMail.com. The couple also met with Terry Strada of 9/11 Families United, 9/11 Justice’s Brett Eagleton, and 9/11 family members Sean Passananti, and Dennis, Mike and Tom McKinley.
Lawmakers and victims’ families have for decades urged the government to offer transparency about what links they’e found between the Saudi government and the 9/11 hijackers.
DeSantis joined that call on Monday.
‘The pain of 9/11 endures for these families and all of us who remember that day, and its history must be taught for generations to come. Our work is not done until we have fully brought to light all the details surrounding the attacks, and those responsible are held accountable. I will not rest until both are fully achieved. We Must Never Forget,’ DeSantis said.
He also urged Biden to stand firm on rejecting proposed plea deals for five alleged 9/11 plotters that would have seen them get life in prison instead of the death penalty.
‘Any plea deal allowing the accused to avoid the harshest penalties and transparency is unconscionable given the loss inflicted by their terrorist acts,’ DeSantis said.
The president rejected the proposed 9/11 plea deal, believing that it would not ‘be appropriate in these circumstances.’
The proposed deals sparked outrage from families of the almost 3,000 Americans killed in the attacks.
Terms included the request for assurances that they would not be held in solitary confinement and could eat and pray together, the New York Times reported.
