Well, the ladies and gentlemen have dismissed themselves and therefore can no longer be dismissed. The House of Representatives has not yet declared a subject controversial (and will not do so for the time being), so nothing is controversial enough during the period when half the Netherlands is on vacation. And so Dilan Yeşilgöz-Zegerius just pushes a new law through.
So what is that law? It is a law that many will think, “Okay, fine! I agree with that!” This is because the media is selling it as a law that criminalizes Holocaust denial.
However, what is also briefly glossed over (and that, of course, is the point) is that any denial of war crimes is criminalized. In short: imagine you believe that MH17 was not shot down by Russia, but by Ukraine. Boom: a year in jail. Suppose you say it was a hoax. Boom: a year in jail. But also if you think not Russia but the West is committing war crimes. Boom: one year in jail. Yes, really it really says it.
