Kate Winslet says she was ‘absolutely destroyed’ by the story of a mother who was almost forced to put her disabled child into care because she could not afford the electricity. The actress, 47, gave Carolynne Hunter £17,000 towards her daughter’s life support and said today the ‘powers that be’ need to ‘make changes that will actually help these people’. Ms Hunter, from Tillicoultry, was warned by Clackmannanshire Council that her bill could rise from £6,500 to £17,000 next year.
