Migration pressure is increasing again at Hungary’s borders as thousands of illegal aliens attempt to reach the European Union via Romania and Serbia, according to reports.
Romania is deploying additional resources and manpower to the Hungarian frontier as both countries work together to mitigate a sharp increase in human smuggling and illegal border crossings.
In total, Romanian border guards have reportedly arrested nearly 11,000 illegal migrants so far this year.
Migrants are often found hiding inside cargo trucks, sometimes without the knowledge of the driver.
Truck drivers are now instructed to inspect their vehicles after stopping at service areas along international motorways in the region.
“At the Csanádpalota crossing point, border guards with dogs have been deployed to reinforce controls, mainly to check lorries in order to screen out border crossers hiding in there,” Bondar Marin, head of the Romanian Oradea Regional Border Police Inspectorate, explained during a press conference in Hungary on Monday.
