The one thing ‘heat-reducing’ technology has in common – it catches fire: Firefighters tackle Hull turbine fire

A single Senvion 2MW turbine located near the Croda chemicals manufacturing site in Hull, north-east England, has caught fire.

Local firefighters are attending the incident

Humberside Fire and Rescue said online: “We are receiving multiple calls regarding a fire involving the wind turbine on Oak Road fields between Clough Road and Sutton Fields in Hull. Crews are in attendance.”
A spokesperson for Croda, which erected the turbine in 2008, said there had been no reported injuries.

They said: “We can confirm that we are aware of an incident at the Cargill site in Oak Road, Hull, involving a wind turbine fire this morning.

“On 30 June 2022, Croda International Plc completed the sale of the majority of its Performance Technologies and Industrial Chemicals businesses to Cargill, which included the Hull site.

“We have been in contact with Cargill and have offered support. There have been no reported injuries.

“Croda erected the wind turbine in 2008 and maintained the turbine using third party wind turbine experts.”

Siemens Gamesa, which took over Senvion’s European onshore wind business following the latter’s insolvency, said it has sent a team to the site.

“As soon as the emergency services release the site and when it is safe to do so, we will begin our investigation,” a spokesman said.
