JEREMY CORBYN’s brother has gone on a scathing attack on the climate change protestors, labelling them “deranged” after the group continue to bring large parts of central London to a standstill.
Piers Corbyn condemned the actions of Extinction Rebellion (XR) activists which have caused chaos for the past five days across Marble Arch, Oxford Circus, Waterloo Bridge and Parliament Square. The elder brother of the Labour leader, denounced expert opinion on the human impact on global warming as a “hoax” as he embarked on a counter-rally against the protest group. Mr Corbyn, 72, held a banner in the capital which stated “CO2 levels are effect not cause” and Global warming is a “hoax to hike up energy prices” along with the hashtag “#Coverup #Climategatefraud”.
When the 72-year-old was asked about the Extinction Rebellion activists, he said: “I think it was deranged.”
He added: “This is disrupting traffic and stopping people going to work, the police should have moved them on ages ago.”
Despite being a physicist and meteorologist, Mr Corbyn has been a longterm sceptic about the effects of climate change on the plant.
“Global warming is over and it never was anything to do with CO2 – CO2 is still rising but the world is now cooling and will continue to do so.”
As the protests enter its sixth day, the Met police has confirmed it has now made more than 680 arrests, after Home Secretary Sajid Javid urged the authorities to use the “full force of the law”.
