The UK today recorded its lowest Covid cases since September after 3,402 Britons tested positive for the virus while daily deaths dropped to 52 as thousands flocked to parks, beaches and beauty spots to soak up the sun and kick off their bank holiday weekend. Despite warnings of mild and overcast weather, there were clear skies and warm temperatures in many areas as people met with friends and family outdoors – for many, the first time they will have done so in months.
Beaches in Bournemouth and Brighton were packed with visitors, while in South Shields a huge queue formed outside a chippy as hungry sunseekers waited to get their hands on some traditional food.
London’s Borough Market and Primrose Hill were also full of people taking advantage of the easing of lockdown rules, which has allowed up to six people, or two households, to mix outside since Monday.Â
