Jewish former Speaker John Bercow claims he was subjected to ‘anti-Semitic’ abuse from Conservative MPs – the ‘anti-Semitic’ card again, on and on it goes

‘Former Speaker John Bercow accused Conservative Party members of subjecting him to anti-Semitic abuse today.

The Jewish former MP said he faced ‘subtle’ digs at his heritage while a member of the party.

In a wide-ranging interview with the Sunday Times he also accused Boris Johnson of cheating to avoid a tennis thrashing when they played at Chequers – but still lost 6-0 6-0 6-0.

Mr Bercow told the paper that as the son of a Jewish cab driver he never faced anti-Semitism from Labour Party politicians.

He added: ‘But I did experience anti-semitism from members of the Conservative Party.’

‘It’s very difficult to put a figure on it. A lot was subtle.

‘I remember a member saying: ”If I had my way, Berkoff, people like you wouldn’t be allowed in this place.”

‘And I said: ”Sorry, when you say people like me, do you mean lower-class or Jewish?”

‘To which he replied: ”Both.”’
