‘Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said on Thursday he was dropping his annual challenges this year to focus on his grand vision for the decade ahead.

Zuckerberg said on Thursday he plans to tackle ambitious challenges spanning the coming decade, including ‘generational change,’ reforming the world economy, and ‘curing, preventing and managing all diseases in our children’s lifetimes.’

In the past, Zuckerberg has famously set annual personal goals such as learning Mandarin and reading two books a month.

His new approach would see the CEO focusing more on the problems that have afflicted Facebook, as well as new opportunities for revenue growth, such as an ambitious plan to ‘decentralize opportunity’ by turning the company into an e-commerce platform.

‘Rather than having year-to-year challenges, I’ve tried to think about what I hope the world and my life will look in 2030 so I can make sure I’m focusing on those things,’ he said.

Zuckerberg, whose company is under pressure for failing to adequately police content and protect user privacy on its platform, said he expects governments to come up with clearer rules for the internet over the next decade.’
