Learning About the Endocannabinoid System
You cannot understand fully how beneficial CBD is if you don’t know how the body processes and uses it. The human body creates cannabinoids all on its own. These are referred to as endocannabinoids and they play a huge role in maintaining balance in the body and boosting the immune system.
The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is largely comprised of receptors that are located around the body. There are two types of receptors and they have been deemed CB1 and CB2. CB1 receptors attract THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) when it is introduced into the body. They are located in the brain, primarily. This is why THC has the psychoactive effect on the body. THC is one of 80 cannabinoid compounds that are present in cannabis plants. It is the one that causes a ‘high’ and this is due to bonding with CB1 receptors in the brain.
CBD (cannabidiol) is not a psychoactive compound, but it is a cannabinoid, another of the 80-known cannabinoid phytocompounds found in cannabis. A phytocompound is simple another word for ‘plant compound’ and applies to any plant compound from any plant.
CBD primarily bonds to CB2 receptors that are located more in the trunk of the body, the mid-section and gut region. CBD can give you all the same benefits as medical marijuana, without impacting the way you think and react. For those who must work, or drive, or have their brain in the game, CBD is a much better choice. Also, if you live in a state that has not yet legalized medical marijuana, CBD gives you an alternative that is quite effective.
When CBD bonds to a receptor, they form a lipid that enters the neural network to find its way to cells that need repairs or balance brought to them. Along the way, it coats the walls of the neural network. This provides protection to them, like an armor coating to protect from the effects of aging, brain injury, concussions, and even Alzheimer’s disease.
Also, while that lipid is floating along, minding its own business, if it sees a long chain of impulses being rapidly sent to the brain, it interrupts them and stops them. These can be pain signals, overwhelming negative thoughts, triggers to start seizures, emotional triggers that cause anxiety or PTSD symptoms to flare, etc.
By stopping these signals and blocking that parade to the brain, the brain never gets the messages and therefore doesn’t respond. This means there is no response. No pain is felt. No trigger starts the panic attack. This simple act of blocking signals and being in their way gives people enormous relief from pain, seizures and symptoms from chronic conditions that can range from upset stomach, to tremors associated with Parkinson’s disease.
The implications are far and wide-ranging. CBD has been shown to stop the cravings that opioid addicts have when trying to stop using the horrifically addictive drug responsible for so many deaths. Even people trying to quit using tobacco have done so successfully by using CBD oils to help.
Cancer patients initially began using CBD to treat the nausea that was often a side-effect of the chemotherapy that they had to endure as part of their treatment for cancerous cells. Doctors and scientists began seeing other benefits and it was studied more thoroughly. Lab rats with cancer have been studied and proven over and over to have their tumors shrunk and slowed by nearly 50% normal growth rate for similar tumors.
CBD is being studied thoroughly for many beneficial purposes. Epileptic seizures were so reduced by CBD use that a new medication has been developed and given the FDA’s stamp of approval. Epidiolex is now in use, being prescribed by doctors in the USA and around the world for the treatment of seizures.
The Cancer Link
It is believed that cancer is a side-effect of free-radicals in the blood stream. These are formed when cells break-down as part of a natural aging process in the body. As they degrade, oxidation occurs. This oxidation is what forms free-radicals, like trash, floating in the blood stream. Anti-oxidants are available naturally in things like blueberries, blackberries, dark-green veggies and other fruits and vegetables. Even fish oils, because of omega oils, are known sources of anti-oxidants.
These are important to ridding the body of the dangerous free-radicals that are now a prime suspect in causing cancer and other auto-immune diseases. CBD oil, a plant-derived product, is a known source of ultra-rich omega oils and anti-oxidants that help rid you of free-radicals; in addition to slowing tumor growth, possibly keeping more cancerous cells from being able to form.
As you may imagine, this is exciting. Scientists are researching these links in hopes of creating treatment options and maybe one day finding cures to the cancers that plague our society. Cancer is one of the leading causes of death right now and being able to change that is a common goal of every civilized nation on the planet.
Taking CBD Oil, as you can see, is beneficial for a multitude of reasons and everyone can benefit. Even as a supplement, there is certainly enough research to think that as a cancer protective supplement, CBD can be taken in daily doses. If you are unsure of how to take CBD, Vitaleaf Naturals is a fantastic resource to check into. Their charts show you the amounts recommended, based on the dosages you purchase.
